This Week’s Best in User Experience

By: Megan @UXMotel Wilson

This Week’s Best in UX looks at the importance of UX in brand experience, and at the changing role (and opinion) of UX design.

1. It’s not UX vs. UI, It’s UX & UI

In this article by Chris Bank, he compares and contrasts web UI and UX, and explains why we often default to building a UI. He provides concrete examples of these challenges and outlines the various ways we can facilitate change

2. Does User Experience Design Exist?

In Adriaan Fenwick’s article he tackles the User Experience design question, and argues that while UED should exist, for now, we need to use it skillfully. He uses particularly compelling evidence that will most definitely peak your interest.

3. User Experience is Brand Experience

In Eric Karjaluoto’s article on UE as brand experience, he presents the challenges associated with trivializing your UX by putting it behind your visual identity concerns.

4. User Experience Design is a Fad

In Bryan Rees’ article he tackles the definition of User Experience Design. He describes the broad set of skills required of a UED but also outlines the many fields that a UED brings together under one title.

5. How to Guide Users Through Technically Complex Processes

Finally in this article we identify the way to create a simple and easy user experience with just the right level of complexity. Keeping it simple means appropriate cues and better cohesion. We outline just how to get this right.
